The Sega Game 1000 or SG-1000 was Sega's first real consumer games console. Released in 1983 to the Japanese market it had minor success and sold until 1985. In July 1984 Sega released the updated version called the SG-1000 Mark II. It was functionally identical to the SG-1000 but was able to take the optional SK-1100 keyboard. A computer version was also produced called the SC-3000.
The later Mark III version had improved hardware and increased RAM and would become the massivly popular Sega Master System.
