couple of issues with the site.

Postby SE7EN » Tue Aug 07, 2012 1:27 am

been seeing some things recently when on the site, wanted to bring them up and see if they're just me, or problems for all.

1. speed. awhile back, the site was slow, but then it was stated some of the problems had been located and taken care of. the speed did improve a bit, but was still moderately slow compared to most sites i frequent. these past couple of days have seen some very slow speeds, back to almost as bad as it used to be. this issue is with the forums only, not downloads (that could be slow as well, haven't downloaded anything lately to tell for myself). I am on 20m cable, and do not really notice other sites being frequently slow, so i do believe the problem resides in this site.

2. I have been, on a couple of occasions, taken to http://www.webring.org/hub/cvgs?w=1920; ... om%2F;rd=1 from the main page (not from the forums). I thought a couple times maybe I had clicked on something, but today I opened a new tab, clicked on my bookmark for the site http://www.theoldcomputer.com/ opened up a new tab for some other sites, and when I returned, I was instead on the webring dot org site. It seems to be random to me, I cannot reproduce the results. I do not know if it on my end (doubtful since I only notice it on this site) or if it is intentional or not on this site's end.. or maybe I am accidentally clicking something on this site and just not realizing it. Any way it goes, I thought that I should mention it, just in case it is unintended and/or malicious.

thanks.

Se7en,

Thanks for your comments they are greatly appreciated.

About the speed
I have made many changes over the past few days to enhance the speed of the website and the roms sections in particular. I am confused as to why you are not feeling this speed increase. It is possible that at the moment you tested there was a lot of downloading going on. Please check this again over the next while and let me know if you think it has improved. Other users have felt the speed increase. Also try clearing your browser cache in case you are using old versions of the site files.

About the Webring Redirect
I have had this happen to me once as well. Not sure why the webring link at the bottom of the page was able to redirect the site but it did appear to happen. I will keep an eye on this over the next few days and would ask other members to also report if this happens to them.

Thanks and lets stay up to date on these issues.

I've already told you there's an issue with the forums HT in regards to them being slow. Second, I've never had that webring thing happen to me at all. So yea. Speed of the forums is atrocious. >.>'

You've seen my connection... 36 Mbps down, 6.15 Mbps up. I know from using wireshark that it isn't me either. It's server related. The connection to TOC (forums) seems to time out a lot, according to wireshark... but everything else, browser or game related is lightning fast for me... >.>'

*EDIT*

Wouldn't you know that just after I say that I've never had that webring thing happen to me, it happens to me. DAFUQ. >.>'

I will try clearing the forum cache to see if that helps. I have to tell ya that the forums for me are fast, as good as the main site. Weird.

Forums at times for me are slow, but it could be the fault of the ISP I have, as there are times of the day that my internet slows to a crawl. :x
< The program said "Requires Windows 98 or better to run properly." So I installed Linux. >
