well, the best possible processor I can find for your board is an AMD Phenom II X4 925. 2.8 GHz quad core 95W Socket AM3/AM2+ for anywhere inbetween 30 and 100.

i'm not sure Kherr, but i don't think a Phenom II will work on my motherboard. the specs on the page that i posted a link to say that the motherboard can support the Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt TDP). so i'm thinking that a Phenom II wouldn't work. i am greatful to you for your help Kherr and i don't want you to spend your money on parts that may not work with my system. any Phenom X4 2.0GHz or higher will be sufficient. if you are unable to find a Phenom in your price range, HT has offered to send me a couple of Athlon64 X2 processors to try out.

hi everyone. last friday crusty sent me a cpu for my new computer and i got it yesterday. it's an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ single core cpu clocked at 2.4GHz. i have installed it in the computer and i'm happy to report that the computer is up and running. at the moment the cpu idles at about 29%. which is to be expected from this cpu. i am still hoping to find a Phenom X4 CPU so i can use the computer to its fullest. but i expect to be using this cpu for quite sometime. i am very happy to have such a great PC and i hope to make it even better while i own it.

it looks like i have stumbled upon a happy accident. the second Hard drive in my computer contains Ubuntu 10.04. and as an added bonus, my computer can boot from mutiple physical drives. including usb flash drives, sd cards and compact flash drives. i'm going to have so much fun with both operating systems!! :D

hi evryone :)
last week crusty sent me a small box of stuff that included a DVI cable so i could finally use the video card that came with the computer (up tell now i've been using the onboard VGA graphics adaptor) and i got it this monday. but saidly i must report that the video card was seriously damaged during the shipping of the computer when the cpu broke loose. the card is still usable, but only up to 800x600 resolution with a color depth
of 16 bit. which makes it good for only as a last resort/emergency card. so for now i'll be using the onboard VGA untell i can get another PCI-E X16 video card with either a VGA port or a DVI port.
also, i've made a few tweeks to lubuntu(disabled a couple of non-essential background programs) so the cpu now idles between 0% and 2% :) .
