Approximately 51 percent of the traffic on the Internet is non-human and is comprised of traffic generated by search engine crawlers, data scrapers, vulnerability scanners, and other computer-directed sources.

It was just a fact blurb on How-to geek if I remember correctly.
I do not know if the fact is true or not, but if the numbers are anywhere near close, it is food for thought.

Hmm... that is interesting, but seems somehow accurate. I mean, a lot of traffic is generated by big corporations... So I guess I could see this as true.

search engine crawlers are programs that "crawl" through just about every web site in existence to gather information about every web site in order to fulfill search requests.
data scrapers archive data from web sites
and vulnerability scanners do just that. they check web sites and servers for vulnerabilities
