You must have the Java JDK installed on your machine.

This will allow you to run commands such as "javac" to compile .java files into program.class and then you can run them with the "java program" command. You can not technically "build" java programs from the dos command line. You can use any notepad editor but currently I would say the best idea would be to download the Eclipse editor as it will help you code, compile, and run you java programs with much more ease.

Those are good choices, i loved sam n max and day of the tenticle, monket island, full throtle were all great games.
