EXPLORE WITH
OPEN EYES.

Old software and decades of community history are fascinating, but not every file or description can be perfect.

FILE 01ARCHIVE CONTENT

Historical Archive & Accuracy

The Old Computer preserves information, ROM variants, disk images, manuals, screenshots and material about vintage systems. Labels, dates, machine compatibility, provenance and technical descriptions may be incomplete or contain errors. Historical material may reflect the terminology or assumptions of its original era.

We aim to correct meaningful errors when identified, but cannot promise that every item is complete, accurate, current or suitable for your purposes.

FILE 02PLEASE USE CARE

Downloads & File Safety

Old disks, ROM images, archives and executable files may be damaged, altered or contain unwanted or malicious code. Software intended for an emulated computer can still pose risks depending on how it is opened, extracted or executed.

Keep backups, use reputable security tools and take appropriate precautions when trying unfamiliar programs or emulators. We cannot guarantee that every historical download is error-free or free of security risks.

FILE 03THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE

Emulators & Compatibility

Emulators are typically developed by third parties. Their features, licences, compatibility and security vary. Some games and systems require separate BIOS, firmware or operating-system components with their own rights and conditions.

Follow the author’s instructions and licence terms. Where possible, test unfamiliar applications in an isolated environment and do not rely on an emulator to protect important files or devices.

FILE 05SITE STATUS

Availability & Reasonable Limits

We work to keep the archive available, but maintenance, technical faults, licensing concerns, changes to third-party services and other events may interrupt access or require files to be changed or removed.

Nothing on this page is intended to exclude or limit any legal rights or responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

FILE 06SITE LOCATION

An Archive with a Worldwide Audience

The Old Computer is operated from the United Kingdom and welcomes visitors from around the world. We endeavour to respect applicable laws and rights; the location of our servers does not make all online activity lawful in every country.

You should consider the laws and licensing terms applicable to your own use. Other countries may also have mandatory rights or protections which cannot be excluded by the wording of a website disclaimer.
